My Bare Necessities.

My Bare Necessities (What We Shipped to Germany).

Our stuff is here!  It arrived last week!  It was like Christmas in October.

We were fortunate that Mr. Meena’s company paid to ship up to 200 lbs. of our possessions in addition to paying for storage for what we left behind.  We shipped five boxes and they arrived almost exactly one month after we did.  We were excited about it mostly because of our warm clothes (coats and socks, especially).  But there are a few other things that I was excited about.

+ My decorative fruit bowl.

+ A silent clock (none of tick-tick-tick noise, kthx).

“Digital clocks are symptomatic of our ambivalent age; they provide the precise time to the nanosecond, but no greater context: an infinite succession of “You Are Here” arrows, but nary a map.”
– Stephen Lawhead, “The Paradise War”.

+ AMERICAN PEANUT BUTTER.

+ American measuring devices.

+ My best small cooking pan and paring knives.  If you have to live with very little, then you need to have high quality stuff.

+ Mason jars. Because #Murica.

+ My flask.  For the train rides, of course.

+ A wedding photo.

+ My commuter French Press.

Well there you have it!  Those are the highlights from our shipment.  Now that we have been here a month, I have a better idea of what else I probably should have included.

So what would you have brought across the ocean with you?
